The Red Sea Development Company awards contract for Management Hotel

Contract for 150-room hotel awarded to Saudi Amana Contracting, a subsidiary of Amana Contracting Group

The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), the developer behind one of the world’s most ambitious tourism initiatives, has contracted Saudi Amana Contracting, a subsidiary of UAE-based Amana Contracting Group, to design and build a management hotel at the project site.  The manufacturing of the hotel will be sub-contracted to DuBox Precast Products Industrial based in the UAE, another subsidiary of the Amana Contracting Group.

The contract award, which followed a competitive tender process, is part of a wider Coastal Village initiative to provide accommodation, office space and supporting civil amenities to around 40,000 workers and staff who will work at The Red Sea Project during and after development.

“As we progress with construction of the first phase of The Red Sea Project, we are not losing sight of the need to provide a high standard of living for the workers and employees who will deliver and work at the destination,” said John Pagano, CEO of The Red Sea Development Company.

“We selected Amana Contracting with DuBox based on their innovation and proven track record in delivering pre-finished modular units to a very high standard of quality. These capabilities will allow us to provide our workers and employees with a stand-out residential hotel while maintaining our commitment to protecting the environment.”

“The Red Sea Project offers unique challenges that demand a fresh approach to construction. Dubox’ ability to deliver complete offsite manufactured, volumetric, pre-finished modular solutions provides speed of delivery, enhanced quality, economy of scale and an overall process that is safer both for workers and for the environment,” said Chebel Bsaibes, Chairman of the Amana Group.

“We are excited to be a part of this forward-looking, sustainability-led, project and to be contributing to the realization of its vision.”

The 150-room hotel is due for completion within 12 months and will be owned and operated by TRSDC. The hotel is intended to provide accommodation for staff and third parties visiting the site during delivery of the first phase of the development. As the destination develops, the hotel may be opened to serve guests who visit the destination’s employees.

During the first phase of the project, the Coastal Village will house around 14,000 people who will be employed in roles at the destination as well as temporarily house 25,000 workers who will be building the development assets.

“The construction of the management hotel, overlooking the sea within the Coastal Village, is an example of TRSDC’s plan to build and repurpose permanent structures during construction rather than relying on temporary buildings. This not only reduces cost but also minimizes the impact on the environment. Pre-fabrication and modular construction techniques will be used wherever feasible across the development to reduce our environmental footprint, minimize the number of construction workers at the destination and ensure speed of delivery in a sustainable manner,” said TRSDC Chief Project Delivery Officer Ian Williamson.

The Red Sea Project is on track for completion by the end of 2022, including 14 luxury hotels offering 3,000 rooms across five islands and two inland resorts. It will also include a yachting marina, entertainment facilities, an airport, and the necessary supporting logistics and utilities infrastructure. Earlier this year, TRSDC announced that construction had begun on site and its Base Camp was fully operational.

DuBox (www.dubox.me) is an off-site manufacturer of pre-finished volumetric concrete modular buildings. DuBox designs and delivers complete single or multi-storey concrete buildings using modular methodologies. Entire buildings are manufactured off-site in the DuBox factory, including all services and finishes. Modules are trucked or shipped pre-finished to job sites, where they are installed.

Speed, efficiency, and effectiveness drive everything we do.

About The Red Sea Development Company

The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC - www.theredsea.sa) is a closed joint-stock company wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia. TRSDC was established to drive the development of The Red Sea Project, a luxury tourism destination that will set new standards in sustainable development and position Saudi Arabia on the global tourism map.

The project will be developed over 28,000 km2 of pristine land on Saudi Arabia’s west coast and includes a vast archipelago of more than 90 islands. The destination also features mountain canyons, dormant volcanoes and ancient cultural and heritage sites. The destination will include hotels, residential properties, leisure, commercial and entertainment amenities, as well as supporting infrastructure that emphasizes renewable energy and water conservation and re-use.

Activity for the first phase of development, which focuses on enabling the infrastructure to support future work, is well underway. A marine infrastructure contract awarded in July 2019 includes the construction of a 3.3 km crossing to Shurayrah (the main hub) and development has begun at the Coastal Village, which will be home to around 14,000 people who will work at the destination.
